DCNS has established an Australian subsidiary, with a view to bidding for the Future Submarine program.
Hervé Guillou, chairman and chief executive officer of DCNS, launched the subsidiary on November 19 in the presence of Minister for Defence Senator David Johnston, and defence industry and government representatives. By setting up this long-term base in Australia, DCNS is hoping to take the lead in any SEA 1000 discussions between Australian stakeholders and a combined French government and industry team, which also includes Thales Australia, according to a statement from DCNS.
“DCNS is considering to propose a conventional Barracuda submarine, offering Australia access to the most advanced French design and engineering know-how,” the company stated.
