NUSHIP Adelaide, the second Canberra class Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ship, has completed her final sea trials, and returned to the Williamstown shipyard in Melbourne to be prepared for delivery.
Prime contractor BAE Systems stated that the main focus of the trials was on testing the combat and communications systems over a 10-day period during the journey from Williamstown to Jervis Bay and back.
“The upcoming handover will of course be a very proud day for all involved with building NUSHIP Adelaide, but it will not be the end of our involvement with these mighty ships,” said Bill Saltzer, director for Maritime at BAE Systems Australia.
“As prime contractor for LHD in-service support, our team of experienced engineers, technicians and logisticians in both Sydney and Williamstown will continue to be the key partner to the [Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group] and [Royal Australian Navy] in managing the availability of these two ships at Garden Island, Sydney.”
