The US State Department has approved a possible foreign military sales (FMS) order from Australia for 200 FGM-148E Javelin missiles for the Australian Army.
A Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notification says the missiles will be drawn from US Army stocks to fill a shortfall in Australia’s Javelin inventory, and that the acquisition is valued at not more than US$46m (A$63m).
The 23kg infrared-guided Javelin is a man-portable fire-and-forget anti-armour missile that has seen extensive use with much success in recent conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria.
